Vicente Luque wants to push further up the UFC and had two big names for his next fight

Vicente Luque is coming off consecutive wins in the UFC and is looking for his next fight.

The 28-year-old currently holds a 19-7-1 MMA record, however, he is 12-2 ins his last 14 fights. That has seen him move up into the top 10 of the Welterweight division, but he wants more.

Luque was on the WERMMA show and asked about who he wanted to face next. While the 28-year-old was open to fighting Nate Diaz or Jorge Masvidal, he had two other names that made more sense to him:

“Two guys that would make a lot of sense. One, it’s unfortunate for him he has no other fight, Leon Edwards. You know I would love to fight him because he is a rematch.

“Many years have gone after he beat me. I am ready to get that rematch and get a win over him. That would be a great fight for me and for him, you know, he hasn’t at this point there really isn’t other places to go.

“I think he has to fight and stay active and it would be a good fight for him as well.”

Edwards seems stuck in the doldrums and hasn’t fought in over a year. It seems that everyone is avoiding him for some reason but this would be a great chance for Luque to get back his loss.

The other name on his list

Luque also spoke about facing Michael Chiesa and highlighted his name since he was higher up the rankings.

“Another name would be Chiesa. I think it makes a lot of sense for me to fight him. He has improved, so much at 170. He has a really good 155 but at 170, he still has to face some tough guys and I think I am that tough guy to face.

“For me, it makes sense he’s on top of me in the ranking so I definitely want to face him.”

Luque added that he wanted to fight guys and stay active in the promotion. He was ready to face Edwards and put the ball in his court.

Another name he was open to face was Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson. Wonderboy got the win over Luque a while back and the 28-year-old believed he could get a win back after making a few changes to his game.

As with the Edwards situation, Luque was open to the fight and it was down to Wonderboy to accept it.

The third and final name he brought up in all this was Neil Magny. The pair were to meet but their fight was cancelled. However, Luque was open to facing Magny if he didn’t have another top contender as his next opponent.
