Vicente Luque is extremely close to UFC Welterweight contender Gilbert Burns
Gilbert Burns vs Kamaru Usman is set to happen sooner or later. The Brazilian has been excellent since moving to the Welterweight division and will fight the champion, Usman, for the belt too.
Vicente Luque was the latest guest on WERMMA and believed that Burns would get the better of Usman.
While the 28-year-old confirmed that the UFC are trying to get the pair in the Octagon, he was also asked about facing off against Burns for the title in the future:
“That is something we have talked about. It is a little bit different because we are not only like friends but we are there for each other.
“We help each other in every camp. We corner each other, our families are really friends. I know his kids, they know my wife.
“We are like brothers, so there is no way we could fight because it wouldn’t be possible in there we just would not want to hurt each other.”
While Luque was rooting for Burns to get the win over Usman, he spoke about the possibility of clashing against him in the future:
“Whoever gets the title first keeps that title until the next one gets there and then we gotta figure out what happens, someone maybe moves up or moves down.
“We are going to work that out.”
It will be interesting to see how Usman vs Burns goes though. Some believe that Burns has it in him to defeat the Nigerian Nightmare and become the next champion.
Luque, for his part, was keen on getting back into the Octagon. The 28-year-old named Leon Edwards and Michael Chiesa as possible opponents but was open to facing Stephen Thompson, Jorge Masvidal or even Nate Diaz.
The 28-year-old keen on just staying active during the pandemic and work his way up the rankings.
Luque was also asked about who his dream fight would be and explained why Georges St-Pierre was the man:
“Dream fight has to be with Georges St-Pierre. He is the most dominant 170 guy, welterweight, of all-time, in my opinion.
“I think it is going to be hard for someone to get to that level. Beating him would be like OK, I am at that level.”
GSP is retired from the UFC and has spoken about returning for a possible fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
However, Luque had some doubts about GSP returning and what kind of return it could be:
“I don’t think he is going to get back and even if he does, I don’t know if he’s gonna be a welterweight or the same GSP who was so dominant in the past.
“It is the kind of fight that you can only dream of.”
GSP is a legend in the UFC and his return would be amazing. However, the Canadian only seems keen on facing Khabib, who is 28-0 in his MMA career
