Michael Chiesa opened up on his relationship with Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal
UFC star Michael Chiesa was the latest guest on the Casual Fanboy MMA Podcast. The 32-year-old is currently recuperating after undergoing a recent surgery but touched upon several topics.
While Chiesa claimed he was ready to fight many stars once he was fit, he was asked if there was a chance of a rematch against Jorge Masvidal.
Gamebred, as Masvidal is called, handed Chiesa his first professional loss. While Chiesa only has four losses in his MMA career, the 32-year-old wasn’t searching for that rematch. However, a bout could take place in special circumstances:
“I don’t really know if I would. I fought the guy once, I fought a great fight, I almost put him out in round one but he’s Gamebred. He came back on me and he beat me in my own game.”
Chiesa also claimed it was ironic that he was beaten at his own game while he tried to play Masvidal’s.
“I learned a lot of lessons in that fight, that was my first pro loss and it kind of forged a friendship. This is a business and if the fight presents itself, I am going to take it, because of his popularity that’s a money fight.
“I’m not going to chase it down. We always talk to each other and I tell him one of these days I am going to show up in Coconut Creek, Florida when the gym closes, I’ll put the gloves on.
“No timer, no fans, nobody in the gym and we will get the rematch in, like Rocky. When I see him we are like Rocky and Apollo.”
While Masvidal vs Chiesa could be a great rematch, the 32-year-old wasn’t pleased with something from their clash.
Chiesa believed the decision not to hand their clash the fight of the night award wasn’t correct but he added that he admired Masvidal a lot.
He ended by saying that he would get his rematch and probably drink some Tequila after the clash. Chiesa added that Masvidal was a good guy and a friend.
Masvidal recently lost out the chance to become Welterweight champion. Gamebred was beaten by Kamaru Usman but credit has to be given to him.
He took up the fight on a week’s notice, flew off to Abu Dhabi and cut weight after Gilbert Burns tested positive for Covid-19.
