Yorgan De Castro faces Carlos Felipe in October but opened up about UFC 249

Yorgan De Castro was the latest guest to feature on WERMMA. The 32-year-old UFC star carries an MMA record of 6-1 with his only loss coming in his last outing against Greg Hardy.

However, the Heavyweight star was still pleased with featuring at UFC 249. The 32-year-old was asked how it felt to open the UFC 249 card and De Castro brought up the fact that he had done this in the past too:

“I already opened the card in UFC 243 in Australia, that was one of the best days of my life. It was like 57,000 people then when we get a chance to fight in UFC 249 against a big name like Greg, I am definitely jumping in there.

“The lead up to the fight was a mess due to the coronavirus. My gym closed for two weeks, then the fight got cancelled.

“It was supposed to be March 28, they put April 18. I was taking time off, back to the gym, time off, back to gym but the chance was great.”

While these did lead to some hiccups for the Heavyweight, he added that it was a good experience but things “didn’t go his way”.

The 32-year-old also added that he was just three fights old in the UFC and was still learning the tricks of the trade.

De Castro was then asked if he had a fight in mind and was keen on calling someone out. The UFC Heavyweight faces Carlos Felipe next but was wary of calling someone out.

De Castro joked that the last time he called someone out (Hardy), things didn’t go his way. However, he was ready to fight anyone that the UFC would give him.

Speaking of his next opponent, De Castro added that he was looking forward to the fight. The 32-year-old is known for his hard-hitting while Felipe likes to box. De Castro predicted it would be a great fight with someone going to go down.

There were two big names that came to De Castro’s mind when asked of a past or present fighter he wanted to take on.

De Castro named Cain Velasquez as one and added that he was a huge fan of Junior Dos Santos too.

The Cape Verde star also was happy to finally cement his weight class as a Heavyweight. De Castro fought in the Light Heavyweight division early in his career, but it seems he is happy at finding the right division for himself.
