El Camino SS 454 was available with 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and 4-speed manual. Being a muscle car, the top speed for the car was 110mph. Although it had the potential to race in major motorsports events, it was limited to street racing. The vehicle produced 502 lb-ft of torque and delivered insane performance.
It Was Expensive
Muscle cars were not economical. The Chevrolet El Camino SS 454 was in production only for 3 years. It was part of the regular El Camino and had the reputation of a top-tier vehicle. These models were sold between $3,000 USD to $7,000 USD. Being a factory muscle pickup coupe, people deemed the car was worth the bucks. Not more than 10k units were sold. Today, the restored models of El Camino SS 454 are available in collector markets. This remains one of the rarest vehicles from Chevrolet till date.
