Ferrari star Charles Leclerc finished seventh in the F1 2021 Styrian GP and won the Driver of the Day
The 2021 F1 Styrian Grand Prix didn’t have a lot of drama, despite the threat of rain. There was actually no rain at all over the weekend and the race too felt like an opportunity missed as Max Verstappen dominated from the start.
The Dutch star came in to win the race by almost half a lap’s length as Lewis Hamilton came in second. Valtteri Bottas came in third after he was able to overtake Sergio Perez. The other Red Bull star had some trouble in his first pit-stop, and despite a late charge, he was unable to get past Bottas.
While there wasn’t a lot of action amongst the top four, Charles Leclerc put in quite a drive to finish seventh.
The Ferrari star qualified seventh but things didn’t go his way. He tangled with Pierre Gasly on the opening lap and both had to pit.
Gasly had to retire from the race but Leclerc came out on the hard tyres and the race pace from the Ferraris was something else.
Had Leclerc not had the mishap, there was a chance he could have finished the best of the rest. Lando Norris got that position, fifth, for McLaren but Carlos Sainz, in the other Ferrari, also drove a fantastic race.
The Spaniard started 12th but finished sixth and if there were a few more laps, he could have caught Norris.
Leclerc, for his part, had to make two pit-stops but credit must be given for him to finish seventh. This was a superb race from both the scarlet cars and should erase the memories from the French Grand Prix where both cars struggled.
The next Grand Prix is also in the same circuit, and Leclerc could be looking at more than the F1 Driver of the Day award next week.
