Everything you need to know about the Formula 1 2022 Championship

The 2022 F1 season is within reach and it looks more exciting than ever. With the introduction of a new era, cars will have more racing and tougher levels of competition. The conclusion of the 2021 season is still fresh on most people’s minds and will be remembered for years to come. Mercedes and Toto Wolff will be gearing to get revenge over their rivals RedBull.

Max Verstappen, the 34th World Champion is set to take the No.1 and look to win another title with Christian Horner and his team. The surprising part is the change in face in the Mercedes paddock. Former Williams driver George Russell takes over from Valterri Bottas in an all-English pairing. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, is still uncertain about returning to the sport.

Ferrari have released the name of their 2022 car called the F1-75. Drivers Charles LecLerc and Carlos Sainz will be looking to have a huge season for the Italian outfit. The Spaniard had a scintillating second half of the season to outperform his teammate. McLaren will be looking to continue from their strong 2021. Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo had their moments throughout the season.

Down below in the field, Alfa Romeo welcomes two new faces in Bottas and Guanyu Zhou. Williams have also signed Alex Albon, the former Red Bull driver to join Nicholas Latifi.

Closer racing is the name of the game here with a new aerodynamic philosophy aimed at helping cars follow each other much closer through the corners without losing downforce. The cutting-edge turbo-hybrid engines will also evolve, with more standardised parts plus E10 biofuel, which is part of F1’s commitment to making a fully sustainable fuel in the future. Safety changes, plus 18-inch Pirelli tyres, wake-control winglets and wheel covers will also feature on the new-for-2022 cars.

We take a deeper look at the details and teasers for the 2022 F1 cars of various teams:

Ferrari

Ferrari has revealed the name of its 2022 Formula 1 car ahead of the launch. The car is named the F1-75 to celebrate Ferrari’s 75th anniversary of the 125 S for manufactured in March 1947. This is the first time SF hasn’t appeared in the car name since 2014. The Italian manufacturer will unveil its new car on February 17.

Ferrari will be hoping to make the most of the new car as it looks to win their first title since 2007.

Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo have released a picture of their 2022 C42. This is the first car which will not be using Ferrari’s gearbox. They will officially unveil the new car on February 27.

The C42 will also have a “different wheelbase”, while also using a different tie rod for the rear suspension.

Red Bull

RedBull have dropped a teaser for their RB18 F1 car for 2022. The experience for the launch is said to be more ‘fan interactive.’ Fans can sign up on an official website, choosing which driver introduces the new car to them virtually. Fans can also choose their preferred language during the launch.

McLaren

McLaren have shown a picture of the new MCL36 from a zoomed angle. The car is said to undergo numerous upgrades ahead of the 2022 F1 season.

“We know performance at race one is critical, and we’ll be delivering an upgrade package to that event, but we expect much more to follow, ” said McLaren. (h/t Twitter)
