Formula 1 action is back this weekend at the iconic Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. But which driver has the most number of F1 wins at Imola?
Racing fans won’t have to wait for F1 action for too long. The Emilia Romagna is just around the corner as the fourth race of the 2022 season is just less than a week away.
The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari track was first used as the home for the Italian Grand Prix in 1980. However, from 1981 until 2006, Imola was the home of the annual San Marino Grand Prix. Only in 2020, after a 14-year break, Imola returned to the Formula 1 calendar as the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, named after the region where the track is located.
But since 1980, a number of top F1 drivers have won races at the iconic venue and ahead of the Emilia-Romagna GP this weekend, we take a look at the drivers who have won the most number of F1 races at the track.
Which driver has the most wins at Imola?
F1 legend Michael Schumacher has won the most number of races at Imola. The German has a record-breaking 7 race victories at the venue. No other F1 driver comes close to Schumacher’s incredible record of wins on the Italian track.
Schumacher won his first race at Imola in 1994 while racing for Benetton. He won six more races at the track after he joined Ferrari. The seven-time World Champion’s final win at Imola came in 2006. It was also the last year that the F1 race was held at the venue until returning in 2020.
Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost have recorded three victories each at Imola. Nigel Mansell, Nelson Piquet and Damon Hill also managed two wins each at the Imola track.
Fernando Alonso (2005), Lewis Hamilton (2020), Ralf Schumacher (2001) and David Coulthard (1998) also tasted champagne at the top of the podium in Imola.
