F1 2023: British Grand Prix Track Guide

British Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from 7th July to 9th July at the iconic Silverstone circuit – here is the track guide

The British Grand Prix has been held annually since 1948 and has been a round of the FIA Formula One World Championship every year since 1950. The iconic Silverstone Circuit has been the permanent home of the British GP since 1987. This FIA Grade 1 licensed circuit is all set to host the 78th edition of the British GP this weekend.

Silverstone Circuit

The Silverstone circuit is on the site of a Royal Air Force bomber station, RAF Silverstone, which was operational between 1943 and 1946. It is a 5.891 km long circuit comprising a total of 18 turns. The arena can support a capacity of 1,50,000, making it a spectacle in the F1 calendar.

Local favourite, Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in the history of the British Grand Prix. The Brit has won it a record eight times. Max Verstappen’s lap timing of 1:27.097 in the 2020 British Grand Prix is the official race lap record for the current Grand Prix configuration, which has only been in existence since 2011.

Red Bull continues to dominate the drivers’ championship standings following another top-of-the-podium finish for Max Verstappen and a third-place finish for Sergio Perez in Austria.

They have made a fantastic start to the season and earlier recorded 1-2 finishes in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami and Azerbaijan besides top of the podium finishes in Australia, Monaco, Montreal and Austria. Verstappen leads the standings with 229 points followed by his team-mate Sergio Perez, who occupies the second spot with 148 points. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso lies in the third spot with 129 points – ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.

In the constructors’ championship, the picture is no different. Defending champions Red Bull are miles ahead of the pack having accumulated 377 points. Mercedes are significantly behind in second place, having earned 178 points from eight races so far. Aston Martin is placed third in the leaderboard with 172 points in their kitty – a whopping 205 points behind the leaders.
