The initial proposal to make the Miami Grand Prix was sent out in 2018 with the race happening in 2019. However, complications arose and the race was delayed. Later, the race was set for 2021, but Formula One opted for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix instead (which is set as round 21 of the 2021 Formula One season).

However, a 10-deal was later signed and Miami was officially declared as one of the destinations in the 2022 Formula One calendar. Formula One will head to Miami in the first week of May 2022. The Miami GP weekend will begin on 6th May and the race will be held on 8th May.

The Miami Grand Prix has received a great response from the fans. It is reported that over 250,000 people have already registered for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix. However, the planned capacity is said to be around 80,000. There is a lot of hype around F1 coming to Miami and it will be interesting to see how it plays out next year.

On which circuit will the 2021 Miami Grand Prix happen?

One of the issues resulting in the delay of the race was to find a suitable venue. After proposals of hosting the race in a street circuit in downtown Miami, a venue was finally decided. A special circuit is being designed around the world-famous Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, for the 2022 Miami Grand Prix.

The owners of the stadium were trying to make this happen for several years before finally getting the approval to do so. The newly constructed circuit will be called the Miami International Autodrome. The circuit length is 3.362 miles (5.410 Kilometers).

The track will feature 19 corners and an estimated average speed of around 139 miles/hr. The track has been a work in progress for a while now. The organizers had to come with almost 75 designs before coming to an agreement on the current design of the circuit.

The circuit is still being built and will reportedly be completed in early 2022. However, the final pieces of the track will be laid out right before the race weekend as the circuit is a temporary one. After the race, the Hard Rock Stadium will need to regain its normal functionality and the track will also be dismantled up to an extent.
