Zhou Guanyu had earlier received a five-place grid penalty for the US Grand Prix for changing engines ahead of FP1
Zhou Guanyu took to Twitter to vent out his frustration after being penalized by the barest of margins in the third quarter ahead of the US Grand Prix race on Sunday. Things haven’t gone too well so far in America for the Alfa Romeo driver. Zhou was earlier handed a five-place grid penalty for changing engines ahead of the first practice session at the Circuit of the Americas.
Earlier, the FIA confirmed after the start of the opening practice session at the Circuit of The Americas that Red Bull’s Perez and Alfa Romeo driver Zhou had taken an additional engine component since the last race in Japan.
As a result, both Zhou and Perez will drop five places on the grid from their qualifying position on Saturday. Zhou Guanyu is now set to start Sunday’s race in nineteenth place, only ahead of Nicholas Latifi.
Let us take a look at how fans reacted to Zhou Guanyu’s tweet after the driver expressed his disappointment on Twitter.
“So many inconsistencies now. You’d think track limits would be simple and most importantly, consistent for everyone”, wrote a fan criticising FIA’s inconsistent decision-making.
“Good luck for tomorrow! Penalized when others weren’t, but we are all behind you for the race! Keep pushing”, a fan had words of motivation.
“come back stronger tomorrow! proud of you regardless”, read another tweet.
“Don’t worry you’re doing a great job. keep it up, proud of you”, tweeted another fan.
“You were this close.Tomorrow will be better, I’m sure of it! Good luck Zhou”, wrote another well-wisher.
