Alex Albon donated his earnings from the auction to an orphanage in Thailand
Williams driver Alex Albon has helped raise £84,000 to support an orphanage in his home country, Thailand. Earlier this year, Albon visited the Wat Sakaeo orphanage near Bangkok which is supported by the Iceman Charity, which is run by Volker Capito, the brother of Williams team principal Jost. The Thai driver auctioned the helmet that he wore in this season’s Singapore Grand Prix to raise funds for charity.
Albon dyed his hair red after visiting the orphanage and encouraged the F1 paddock to do the same as part of a fundraising push. He then took the decision to auction off his Singapore helmet design that was designed by the children he met. The helmet has now been eventually auctioned off for £84,075, raising the overall fund for the orphanage through the Iceman Charity close to £100,000 for the year.
Albon used the F1 Authentics platform to auction his helmet and raise funds for the orphanage. F1 Authentics gives fans the chance to bid for memorabilia by auction or shop hundreds of ready-to-buy exclusive items. There were several bids from fans across the globe before the helmet was sold off to the highest bidder.
F1 Authentics is the official online memorabilia store of Formula 1. Each item comes complete with a certificate of authenticity. In other words, F1 Authentics is the official authority in F1 memorabilia, offering fans of the sport a chance to own a piece of racing history. Products available in the F1 Authentics store include used racewear, helmets, suits and gloves, as well as products re-engineered from race-used materials, such as tables constructed from Pirelli tyres and race engines. Visitors also have the chance to purchase complete race cars.
