Nyck de Vries has been officially announced as a permanent driver for Alpha Tauri from the 2023 season
Nyck de Vries will officially drive for Alpha Tauri from 2023 but did you know he has already driven for four F1 teams? de Vries has previously driven for Alpine, Aston Martin, Mercedes, and Williams and once he drives for Alpha Tauri in 2023, he would have driven for half the teams in the F1 grid! In 2023, the Dutch driver will replace Pierre Gasly at Alpha Tauri, as the Frenchman moves to Alpine to partner with Esteban Ocon.
Nyck de Vries is currently a reserve driver in F1 for the Mercedes team. He has however, already taken part in a race this season, having replaced Alex Albon for Team William at the Italian Grand Prix. He has also previously tested the Alpine A521 at the Hungaroring, alongside Antonio Giovinazzi and Jack Doohan.
Earlier this year, De Vries had a weekend to remember at the Italian GP in Monza. He was subbed in for the sick Alex Albon by Williams. The young Dutchman scored two points on his F1 race debut after a very impressive drive at Monza and was also voted as the Driver of the Day.
Nyck de Vries is ‘extremely excited’ to drive for Alpha Tauri in 2023
Nyck de Vries is delighted that Alpha Tauri has given him a permanent F1 seat. De Vries is one of the sought-after young drivers in F1 circuit and has already enjoyed F1 practice outings for Mercedes, Aston Martin and Williams in 2022 besides a full-time debut in Monza. The young Dutchman will partner Yuki Tsunoda at Alpha Tauri next season.
Speaking about his new deal with Alpha Tauri, De Vries had earlier said: “I’m extremely excited to be joining Scuderia AlphaTauri for 2023 and I want to thank both Red Bull and the team for giving me the opportunity to drive in F1.”
AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost rates the young driver highly. “He is a very highly skilled driver, as he won in all the categories he competed in, with many races and championships under his belt.
His last big success was winning the Formula E World Championship, and this is clear evidence he is a very competitive driver, who deserves a seat in F1″, Tost said. He further added, “I am looking forward to seeing him in our car and I’m confident that with Yuki and Nyck we will have a very strong driver line up for 2023.”
