AlphaTauri started a busy Formula 1 week by launching it’s 2022 car
The year began with a bang when AlphaTauri unveiled their 2022 edition of the Formula 1 car with a revised livery. 2022 saw a lot of regulations being imposed in the competition, the biggest one being the budget cap. Redbull’s sister team did well and the result was, AT03.
AT03 comes with a mix of in-house design and development and purchasing certain parts from Red Bull Racing. The car has Red Bull’s gearbox, rear suspension and hydraulics, as well as the Red Bull Powertrains-badged, Honda-developed engines.
The car also has Redbull’s State-of-the-art wind tunnel. Last year’s 2021 model was designed using the old tunnel but developed with the latest one. This ensured a learning process before AT03’s development.
Team boss Franz Tost said, “It is a completely new era for F1 and we hope that this package will be very strong, following last year’s success.” The team’s retained driver Pierre Gasly said, “This year sees a huge change to the car as, due to the new regulations, the look and design is completely different, so the team has had to start from a clean sheet of paper.“ [via Sky Sports]
The 2021 vs 2022 Edition
This year the AlphaTauri team chose a new color scheme of blue and white while the new livery is bluer than last season. The Honda logo on the rear has been replaced with the AlphaTauri logo and is prominent on the side. The front wing is white whereas it was blue in 2021. Same with the rear wing as well.
The right-wing now sports a new sponsor of the team along with the more notable black colored wheel rims of the AlphaTauri. Another major difference between the liveries is now the partition of the driver’s cockpit.
AlphaTauri decided to go with the color scheme of navy blue and white since it’s rebranded in the image of the company’s fashion label. Everything else on the car comes with a familiar feeling.
Technical Director Jody Egginton, the person responsible for designing and building the AT03, the new regulations represent a challenge and one where he is relying on his world-class team of engineers, mechanics and drivers to pull together. “The new aero regulations have presented a challenge to all of the teams. It’s a very interesting exercise; the concept of the car is significantly different with the new regulations.“
According to Franz Tost, the continuity with the drivers would mean AlphaTauri is best suited for the new season. He said, “I expect the car will be fast because we have a strong team together, we did a lot of work on the mechanical side and as well on the aerodynamics.“
Watch the reveal of the AT03 below. F1 testing begins in Spain on February 23-25 and Bahrain on March 10-12. The 2022 F1 season starts with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 18-20.
