Max Verstappen‘s win in Spielberg on Sunday gives him the momentum he needs heading into the 2021 Austrian GP this week.
The F1 Austrian GP was the start of last season’s curtailed calendar, with Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas winning the opening race of the season. The Grand Prix takes place on Sunday, July 11. Cars will get used to the track conditions on Friday for practice, with FP3 and qualifying taking place on Saturday.
Formula 2 championship leader Guanyu Zhou will become only the second Chinese driver to drive in a Formula 1 practice session with Alpine on Friday.
Time of Qualifying: 1300hrs GMT ( Saturday, July 10)
Time of Race: 1400hrs GMT (Sunday, July 11)
Red Bull have dominated over the last two months in the sport, notching up 4 wins in a row with Sergio Perez winning in Azerbajian while Max Verstappen winning in Monaco, France and Styria. Mercedes’ will be very worried about their long-title reign ending having won seven consecutive titles.
Ferrari have also dropped back after a stunning podium for Carlos Sainz at Monaco. Charles Leclerc performed superbly ending in 7th, after going all the way back the standings. McLaren have impressed this season with Lando Norris being the only driver to finish every race this season, while teammate Daniel Ricciardo has disappointed since his move from Renault.
This race seems like a cruical won in the title race and also determining a tight fight for the midfield positions as the heat intensifies in this rollercoaster of a season.
