BBC journalist claims this year’s F1 cars could be used for 2021 season

The 2020 F1 season is yet to start due to the outbreak of the pandemic coronavirus

BBC Sports’ chief F1 writer Andrew Benson claimed that the cars for this year could be used next year too.

Despite new regulations being planned for the 2021 season, Benson was of the opinion that the same cars would be used next season also in a bid to save money.

The BBC journalist took tweeted to inform the public about the recent developments happening within F1.

With uncertainty still looming large due to the recent coronavirus outbreak, no decision has yet been taken regarding the conduction of this year’s races and the start of the 2020 season.

F1 chiefs to hold crunch talks on Thursday

Meanwhile, F1, Liberty Media, and the FIA along with team principals will hold crunch talks on Thursday in a bid to plan the way forward for the 2020 season.

The outbreak of the coronavirus had already seen the season-opening Australian GP being cancelled.

The Chinese GP scheduled for April 17-19 has also been wiped out, while the upcoming races in Bahrain and Vietnam have been postponed.

The Australian Grand Prix was earlier cancelled after a member of team McLaren was tested positive. The team also had to opt-out of the race at the last minute.

This led to further talks between the F1 chiefs, teams and the medical authorities. Ultimately everyone deciding to not go ahead with the race.

At present, the F1 and the FIA hope that the event would kick off from the May end. However, with the virus spreading like wildfire, no official decision has been taken yet.
