Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he turned down an offer to feature in “Top Gun: Maverick” because of his F1 commitments
Lewis Hamilton says he had to turn down an offer to feature as a fighter pilot in Tom Cruise’s hit movie “Top Gun: Maverick” because of his F1 commitments. Tom Cruise and Lewis Hamilton are good friends but the Mercedes driver’s schedule prevented them from linking up in Top Gun. The seven-time world champion revealed that he had been thrilled at the prospect of a part, having been a huge fan of the original 1986 “Top Gun” movie.
Offered a part as a fighter pilot, Hamilton realised there would not be enough time to fit it in alongside his meticulous preparation for races. “I’m a perfectionist,” he said. “There just wasn’t time.” Hamilton is coming together with Brad Pitt for a new Formula 1 film though, with Hamilton acting as a producer on the project. The film is set to be led by Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski.
Fans certainly regret the fact that they won’t be able to see Tom Cruise and Lewis Hamilton share screen time together. Let us take a look at few of the most interesting reactions.
“Imagine having so much to flex about to not have time to be a fighter pilot in Top Gun because you have to win F1 races”, wrote a fan.
“Bono, my wings have gone”, joked another fan.
Another fan tweeted, “Mannn. This is so disappointing. He would’ve been perfect in this movie. Let’s hope there’s another sequel with a role for him.”
“Oh no! We have seen how great a fashionista he is, heard him sing, would also love to watch him act. He would have been”, read another tweet.
Another fan had quite an interesting take – “….. gave up this once in a lifetime opportunity to focus on @F1, to then be robbed by the same @F1 of the 2021 WDC @F1 will not see peace until they do right by Sir @LewisHamilton”.
