Can Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes come back strong in the Miami Grand Prix?

Published by

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes are struggling big time and would be desperate for a positive result in the Miami GP

Lewis Hamilton was tipped as the favourite to win the 2022 F1 World Championship ahead of the season but as things stand after four races, Hamilton finds himself low down in seventh place in the drivers’ championship leaderboard. Hamilton’s team Mercedes have had no better fortunes and occupy third place in the constructors’ championship, way behind the run-away teams Ferrari and Red Bull.

After a third-place finish in Bahrain, Hamilton has failed to make it to the podium in the next three races, registering P10, P4 and P13 finishes in Saudi Arabia, Australia and Italy respectively.

Mercedes have had a really tough start as a team. They have won the last eight constructors’ championships in Formula 1 but a title this season seems very unlikely. The indifferent start to the 2022 season definitely comes as a shock and surprise to the team and the F1 community in general.

What are Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ chances in Miami?

The Miami Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on 8th May. This is the very first edition of the Miami GP in F1 and Hamilton and his Mercedes team would hope that it marks the beginning of something good for them.

A podium finish would be an uphill task for Lewis Hamilton, given the form of the other drivers in the grid. Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, Perez and Hamilton’s team-mate George Russell are in great rhythm and if Hamilton has to make it to the podium, it has to be an extraordinary effort. Hamilton is very much capable of pulling it off but is it likely given the form he is in? Probably, No.
