Sergio Perez presently occupies the third place in the drivers’ championship earning a total of 54 points so far in the F1 2022 season
Sergio Perez has been thoroughly impressive so far in the F1 2022 World Championship. After a poor start in Bahrain, having registered a DNF, Perez showed his class in the next three races. The Red Bull driver finished in 4th place in Jeddah and followed it up with back to back 2nd place podium finishes in Australia and Imola. Perez will start the Miami GP from the fourth place in the starting grid.
Former F1 champion Damon Hill had words of praise for Perez. He tweeted:
“When they signed @SChecoPerez for @redbullracing I had high expectations. He has hardly put a foot wrong. Top 4 every race this season. Not to mention his 2021 contribution. A true professional. Not everyone can be a Hamilton or Verstappen. Being a top F1 driver is also this #f1.”
Fans on Twitter seem to be really impressed with Perez’s consistency this season. “I really like Checo and agree he has major skills. Enough skill to perhaps outdrive Max. I hope he does this year. He is a really decent honest guy! I don’t think too many want to be a @Max33Verstappen Damon and definitely not just anyone can be a @LewisHamilton”, tweeted a fan.
“Absolutely agree! He’s a VERY good driver. Not in the “special” bracket, but near the top and an excellent team player. I’m sure he will get a win or two with Red Bull. Consistency usually pays off”, wrote another fan who is evidently impressed with the Mexican.
Another elated Perez fan tweeted, “Indeed he’s driven impeccably and done everything Red Bull could ask, from a champion like you that means so much. I hope he gets to see this.”
Where do things stand before the lights go out in Miami tonight?
Ferrari enjoy a lead on top of both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. Charles Leclerc leads the drivers’ with 86 points while a second race win of the season means Max Verstappen has reduced the gap and moved into second place with 59 points followed by his Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez in third place with 54 points.
In the constructors’ championship, Ferrari’s comfortable lead at the top has been reduced drastically by Red Bull. Ferrari lead the table with 124 points with Red Bull just behind them on 113. There is a fair amount of gap between the top 2 teams and the rest of the grid with Mercedes occupying third place having earned 77 points.
