F1 is a dream destination for apprenticeship – let us take look how many F1 teams actually offer you the chance

The number of racing teams giving apprentices a foot in the door has steadily increased. In 2022, apprenticeships offer a real chance to get a job in Formula One. Much like the sport itself, motorsport apprenticeships are highly coveted, and competition is tough, no more so than in Formula One.

Spots on F1 apprenticeship schemes are hotly contested, so it’s now more important than ever to know who is offering the best positions and what skills these employers truly value. Formula 1 has placed two long-term apprentices from underrepresented groups within the organization since 2021. The apprenticeships generally begin in September and have a focus on mechanical engineering.

Some of the F1 teams who offer apprenticeship roles include Williams, Red Bull Racing, Mercedes, Ferrari, Alpine, McLaren, and Aston Martin.

Formula 1 has designated scholarship, apprenticeship, and intern placement programmes in place

After the launch of the #WeRaceAsOne initiative in 2020, Formula 1 set out plans to increase diversity and inclusion across the sport, and today a raft of scholarships, apprenticeships, and intern placements for underrepresented groups have been announced as part of those plans.

F1 is providing engineering scholarships every year for 10 students from underrepresented groups, including ethnic minorities, women, and those from underprivileged backgrounds.

All 10 Formula 1 teams have committed to providing work experience opportunities to a scholar during their time at university. The participating universities represent different regions within the UK and Italy, and each will run an independent selection process to determine the scholarship recipients.

F1 also has an intern placement program. Six interns from underrepresented groups are offered roles across the F1 organization each year since 2021, with a mix of short and longer-term placements.
