Carlos Sainz qualified well for the Portuguese Grand Prix but finished outside the points

It was a tough outing for Carlos Sainz in Portugal despite him qualifying well for the race. The new Ferrari driver is still taking time to adjust to the new car but there were signs he had found some pace in Portugal.

The Spaniard had won points in his first two races with the Italian team. However, he beat his teammate, Charles Leclerc and qualified fifth for the race in Portimao.

Sainz started the race off well but slowly the lack of pace was evident. The former McLaren and Red Bull star slid down the order and finished a disappointing 11th. Sainz was passed by Pierre Gasly, Fernando Alonso and many others and this was not a good showing for him at all.

The Spaniard posted his thoughts on social media and confirmed that the team would analyse what went wrong with the car on Sunday.

Sainz also confirmed that Ferrari would come back strong and he will be amped up for the next race.

A good qualifying position is important for any driver and it will be interesting to see how Sainz performs.

There isn’t a lot of time to prepare for this race and Sainz has his work cut out for him. The Spaniard needs some time to adjust to the new car, and any judgment should be reserved at least half-way into the season.
