Lewis Hamilton was handed a Barcelona jersey but Carlos Sainz wasn’t pleased with that
Six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will be backing Barcelona in the upcoming El Clasico, something that Carlos Sainz didn’t like.
El Clasico sees bitter rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid face off against one another, and it one of the biggest football matches in the world.
Hamilton, who races for Mercedes, shared a picture of a Barcelona jersey he was sent by the Catalan giants.
The champion added that he was a “massive” fan of the team and would be “rooting” for them in the El Clasico.
Sainz, who is Spanish, is a supporter of Real Madrid, Barcelona’s bitter enemies, and he had something to say about all this.
The McLaren racer told Hamilton that they needed to talk, and even used “Hala Madrid” as one of the hashtags in his reply:
Hey @LewisHamilton , we need to talk. #HalaMadrid https://t.co/XtPrCtSdEX

Twitter reacts to banter between the racers
Barcelona have dominated Spanish football in recent years but Real have done better in Europe.
The pair don’t seem to be firing on all cylinders this season, but it should still be a great match between the teams on Sunday.
Many fans also shared their reactions to the banter, and here are some of their tweets:
YES Carlos! Thank you! #HalaMadrid pic.twitter.com/Knp03rxEwR

As for Sainz and Hamilton, they will have different targets for 2020.
Hamilton will be aiming for his seventh driver’s title with Mercedes while Sainz will hope to get another podium, just like he did last season.
McLaren are not in the same league as Mercedes in F1, and it would be one of the biggest stories in sports if Sainz’s team can challenge for the world title.
The first racer of the season is in two weeks, and Hamilton is one of the favourites for the Australian Grand Prix.
