Ferrari ambassador Marc Gene believes Charles Leclerc has a ‘good chance’ to win the 2022 F1 World Championship
Charles Leclerc has made a stellar start to the 2022 F1 World Championship. After winning the Bahrain Grand Prix, Leclerc took second place on the podium in Saudi Arabia. The Ferrari driver has certainly grabbed eyeballs with his performances so far. Ferrari ambassador Marc Gene believes this is just the start and going forward, there are bigger and better things to come from Leclerc.
Speaking to the media, Gene said, “Charles, he used to be very emotional and this year he has changed a lot. Charles is like a 2.0 version of himself. When I went to Barcelona for the private testing, we spent a lot of time together and he was completely changed in his mindset and mentality, you can see it.” He further added, “In Bahrain, I was expecting Charles to be more over the moon after qualifying, after the pole and after the race, but he seemed so much more mature and aware that this is a very long championship.”
Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have been the two stand out drivers so far this season. While Leclerc won the Bahrain Grand Prix, Verstappen showed amazing character to come back strong and win the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after failing to register a timing in Bahrain. Both the drivers have been involved in multiple thrilling duels during both the races and fans totally love it.
From the very beginning of the race earlier in Bahrain, Leclerc led the field away from pole position with Verstappen following closely behind. It was around the first set of the pit-stops where the first duel for the lead took place between the two. Both the drivers were in close combat with each other which saw Verstappen overtaking Leclerc three times for the lead into the first corner on the three successive laps before Leclerc reclaimed the lead each time. However, unfortunately Verstappen had to retire due to a technical with three laps left which ensured a smooth win for Leclerc.
Similar duels were on show in Jeddah as well, with Verstappen eventually winning the race and Leclerc finished just behind in second spot. Fans are absolutely looking forward to watching more of this duel at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
