Sergio Perez registered his first win of the 2022 F1 season on a rainy evening in Monaco
Sergio Perez produced a brilliant drive as Red Bull capitalized on a dramatic Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday. The Mexican driver started the race third on the grid but leapfrogged the leaders during an action-packed race. Pérez won the Monaco GP for the first time in his career, his teammate Max Verstappen finished third and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished in second place.
“It’s a dream come true”, said an elated Perez after the race.
Following the results of the Monaco GP, Max Verstappen extended his championship lead to nine points. Perez, meanwhile, is only six points behind Leclerc, after a strong weekend in which he outpaced Verstappen in qualifying and drove superbly in the race to deliver on Red Bull’s improvisational strategy calls.
Fans react to Sergio Perez’s incredible win in Monaco
The Monaco GP is considered to be a show-piece event in the F1 calendar. A maiden win for Perez at Monaco is certainly reason enough for the Red Bull and Perez fans to celebrate. Here’s how Twitter reacted to Perez’s victory.
“I said it yesterday that Checo would win Monaco after last week’s shenanigans. Karma has been served. Give this man a 2 year contract and let him go go head to head with Verstappen this year”, tweeted a fan who seems to rate Perez very highly.
An over-whelmed Perez fan wrote, “This is probably the most happy a fan can be from watching a driver on top of the podium. Checo is so likable man.’
“Checo is winning this year’s driver’s title”, wrote a fan who seems to have a lot of faith in the Mexican.
“I just saw him cry on the podium I am not ok. Deserved win from the minister of defence”, tweeted another fan.
“Happy for Checo. Especially after those “team orders” in Barcelona! #MonacoGP WINNER”, tweeted another fan – echoing similar sentiments.
