Christian Horner wins Mercedes F1 factory tour at Autosport Award Charity Auction
Red Bull Formula One team boss Christian Horner has begun the mind games ahead of the 2022 season by winning an auction at a Mercedes charity event.
Mercedes offered a factory tour with a winning bid of £4,000 by a certain ‘Christian Horner’.
Talking to RacingNews365.com, Horner humorously stated to bring 20 people along with himself for the factory tour.
“Adrian Newey [Chief Technical Officer], myself, Pierre Waché [Technical Director] and probably Paul Field, our Director of Production,” said Horner.
Horner toured the McLaren headquarters, back in 2008 with Newey and former driver David Coulthard.
Will Horner outpower Toto Wollf once again?
RedBull may have lost the Constructors’ Championship, but Max Verstappen’s maiden world title was the biggest talking point of the 2021 season. The controversy surrounding his victory is still fresh to date, despite an FIA enquiry called to investigate the matter. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff refused to speak to the media and addressed his worries to the FIA commission.
The two teams went back and forth last year, with Verstappen and Sergio Perez winning 11 races in the season. Mercedes have replaced driver Valterri Bottas with academy product George Russell for the 2022 season.
This season, Mercedes will look to avenge their last lap mishap in Abu Dhabi and hope to win another double at the top of the sport. In 2020, Mercedes won its record seventh consecutive double world championship. Mercedes also have won seven consecutive Driver’s Championships from 2014 to 2020. The Silver Arrows begin pre-season track sessions from February 23rd in Spain. The season commences on March 18th, with the first race of the season on March 20th in Bahrain.
