Logan Sargeant is set to race for Williams F1 team in 2023, replacing Nicholas Latifi
Logan Sargeant is set to become the first American racer in F1 since Alexander Rossi in 2015. Sargeant will be seen in action for the Williams F1 team next year, replacing Nicholas Latifi. Sargeant, who is still pending an FIA super licence, drove for Williams in FP1 at the US Grand Prix and has now been officially confirmed as their second F1 driver in 2023.
Logan is a part of the Williams Driver Academy and is currently competing in Formula 2 with Carlin. He is currently third in the F2 championship and would need to finish sixth or higher to collect the remaining points he needs for an FIA super licence. Williams boss Jost Capito has confirmed that Sargeant will be seen driving the Williams again this season at the Mexico and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix.
Logan made his debut in F3 with Carlin in 2019. In 2020, switched to Prema Racing, partnering Frederik Vesti and former British F4 rival Piastri. After three podiums, the American scored his first FIA F3 victory in the second feature race at Silverstone. He eventually finished the season in third place in the overall standings. Sargeant competed in F3 even in 2021 and finished the campaign in seventh place with 102 points.
Logan Smade his FIA Formula 2 Championship debut in 2019 with HWA Racelab. His breakthrough season came this year after he was roped in by Carlin alongside Liam Lawson. At the feature race of the British Grand Prix, he became the first American driver to win a Formula 2 race. Sargeant won the feature race at the F2 Austrian GP the very next week. These wins certainly caught the attention of F1 teams and that has got Sargeant a well-deserved promotion.
Sargeant is well on the way to fulfilling his F1 but before that, he needs to make sure that he gets to 40 points in F2 to obtain the FIA super licence. Sargeant is currently on 28 points, but is very likely to achieve the mark before the season ends.
