After an enthralling Canadian GP in Montreal, let us take a look at the current leaderboard of the F1 Power Rankings
Max Verstappen was awarded a 9.6 by the jury after his win in Montreal, giving him a total score of 8.9. This means that after nine races, the Dutchman also leads this championship. Lewis Hamilton is second on the list. The Mercedes driver received an 8.6 for his podium finish. Slightly behind him is Carlos Sainz, who was awarded an 8.4 for his impressive second-place finish in Canada.
Other impressive gainers in this week’s F1 Power Rankings include Zhou Guanyu and George Russell. Zhou made it to Q3 with P10 in qualifying – ahead of teammate Bottas and made up two places in the race. Zhou finished behind Bottas on Sunday but took a higher score in this week’s Power Rankings.
The ever-consistent George Russell earned a score of 7.8 from the jury for this weekend. Top-five again for Russell, the Mercedes driver having maintained his streak with P4 at the finish line in Canada. A late pit stop prevented Russell from challenging for the final podium spot but the judges scored him highly.
Fernando Alonso who is also awarded a score of 7.8, jointly shares the fifth spot for the weekend with Russell. Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Ocon, Charles Leclerc and Kevin Magnussen complete the top 10 of the F1 Power Rankings for this weekend.
F1 has a dedicated five-judge panel which assesses each driver after every Grand Prix and scores them out of 10 according to their performance across the weekend – taking machinery out of the equation. The experts’ scores are then averaged out to produce a race score – with those scores then tallied up across the season on the overall Power Rankings Leaderboard. Hence, the Power Rankings Leaderboard might reflect completely different standings from that of the Drivers’ Championship Leaderboard.
