The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from April 28 to April 30 at the Baku City Circuit in Azerbaijan
Formula One action resumes in Baku after this short break following three enthralling races in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia.
Teams will reach Azerbaijan by the 26th of April and will take part in the practice sessions ahead of the main race on April 30. The Azerbaijan GP is also set to host the first Sprint Race event of the 2023 season on April 29.
The 2023 Formula 1 Azerbaijan GP will take place at the Baku City Circuit – giving fans a view of modern architecture as well as historic buildings around the capital city of Azerbaijan.
The circuit is an FIA Grade 1 licensed circuit and spans over a total length of 6 km including 20 turns and has a capacity of 18,500. The inaugural edition of this F1 Grand Prix was held back in 2017 and this is set to be the sixth edition.
The Baku City Circuit is the third longest track on the F1 calendar. Interestingly, the Grand Prix hasn’t seen a repeat winner since its inaugural edition in 2017. In the previous edition, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished on top of the podium. Sergio Perez (2021), Valtteri Bottas (2019), Lewis Hamilton (2018) and Daniel Ricciardo (2017) are the winners of the earlier editions.
Red Bull dominate the drivers’ championship standings after a fantastic start to the season with 1-2 finishes in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia followed by another top-of-the-podium finish in Australia.
Max Verstappen leads the standings with 69 points followed by his team-mate Sergio Perez, who occupies the second spot with 54 points while Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso lies in the third spot with 45 points – ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll.
In the constructors’ championship, the picture is no different. Reigning champions Red Bull lead the table with 123 points. Aston Martin are significantly behind in second place, having earned 65 points from three races so far. Mercedes are placed third in the leaderboard with 56 points in their kitty.
