The Circuit Zandvoort, located in North Holland, Netherlands, hosted the Dutch Grand Prix between 1950 and 1985, as well as from 2021 onwards. It became part of the World Championship in 1952 and held the title of the European Grand Prix twice, in 1962 and 1976. During these years, the European Grand Prix was an honorary title awarded to a single Grand Prix race in Europe. The upcoming Dutch Grand Prix in 2023 marks its 35th occurrence as an F1 event.
The Circuit Zandvoort, a 4.259 km motor racing track situated in the dunes north of Zandvoort, Netherlands, and near the North Sea coast, is set to host the Dutch GP. The track’s return to the Formula One calendar in 2021 marked the revival of the Dutch Grand Prix. The circuit holds an FIA Grade 1 license and has the capacity to accommodate a maximum crowd of 105,000 spectators.
Jim Clark holds the distinction of being the most accomplished driver in the history of the Dutch Grand Prix, securing a remarkable four victories. The English driver’s achievement stands as a record. On the constructor front, Ferrari claims the title of the most successful, having clinched victory on eight occasions. In terms of lap records, Lewis Hamilton’s impressive timing of 1:11.097 during the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix officially marks the fastest race lap ever recorded at this event.
The popularity of the circuit has surged due to its high-speed, sweeping turns like Scheivlak, along with the hairpin known as “Tarzanbocht” (Tarzan corner) situated at the conclusion of the start/finish straight. The Tarzanbocht corner is particularly renowned within the circuit.
The presence of a banking angle in this corner facilitates excellent opportunities for overtaking. Both the outer and inner lanes offer viable options for passing. Interestingly, the corner’s name is said to be inspired by a local individual nicknamed Tarzan, who agreed to surrender his vegetable garden in the dunes only if the track’s architects named a nearby corner after him.
