The F1 calendar in 2023 will feature a record-breaking 24 races – the highest ever in the sport’s history
The Formula 1 calendar for the 2023 season has now been officially announced and approved by the World Motor Sport Council. The season starts in Bahrain on March 5 and ends with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 26. It will feature a record 24 races – the most in the sport’s history.
The Formula One World Championship in 2023 will be the 74th edition of the event. The Chinese and Qatar Grands Prix are scheduled to return to the calendar, after last being held in 2019 and 2021, respectively. The Las Vegas Grand Prix is set to make its debut, with the race planned to be held on a new street track across the Las Vegas Strip. Unfortunately, the historic French Grand Prix is unlikely to feature on the 2023 calendar. Besides the French Grand Prix, there are two more GPs from the current edition who do not have a contract in 2023 – Austrian GP and the Mexican GP.
There are not too many changes in the calendar for 2023 from the current edition besides of course, the addition of more GPs and removal of a few. The traditional summer break remains in August but the Belgian GP moves to the end of July just after the Hungarian GP. The Dutch GP is twinned with Italy after the restart.
F1 CEO and President Stefano Domenicali expressed his happiness about the growth of the sport. “We are excited to announce the 2023 calendar with 24 races around the world. Formula 1 has unprecedented demand to host races and it is important we get the balance right for the entire sport”, he said.
Besides Domenicali, FIA President Bin Sulayem said, “The presence of 24 races on the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is further evidence of the growth and appeal of the sport on a global scale.”
