Fernando Alonso is a legend in Formula One and has been impressive this season with Alpine
Formula One racer Fernando Alonso said that he doesn’t want to wait another seven years for his next appearance on the podium. The double World Champion finished on the podium at Qatar Grand Prix after seven long years.
He finished third at Qatar and has been impressive throughout this season since returning to F1. Alonso said he marked his first podium since the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix by “taking a plane, going back home!
Despite seeing the majority of drivers deploying the 1 pit stop strategy crumbles, the veteran held on with Sergio Perez hot on his heels.
“Within three weeks, we did Mexico, Brazil and Qatar [so] it was a normal night. Some celebrations with the team after the race, happy with the podium. We’d been very close [to the podium] in a couple of races but we never had the luck or the performance to conclude.”
“But in Qatar, it was a very nice moment for us, the podium. Hopefully, I don’t have to wait another seven years and next year we are in contention for more.”
Fernando Alonso comeback in Formula One
Alonso was signed to drive for Alpine F1 Team for the 2021 season after he took a break from Formula One for a couple of years. Renault rebranded the team under its new name.
Alpine is 25 points clear of AlphaTauri in the battle for fifth in the constructors’ championship thanks to Alonso’s podium finish in the last race.
Alonso has been making few points here and there throughout the season so far with sixth, seventh, or eight finishes. However, at Qatar, we saw Alonso at his vintage best when he finished third.
Alonso is seen as one of the finest racers in the world. He knows exactly how to race in all weathers and has that ability to see when to race in an aggressive way or defensive way.
