Ferrari name new car F1-75 ahead of 2022 season in honour of first production car
Ferrari have released the name of their new car for the 2022 F1 season calling it the F1-75. It will be the 68th F1 car for the Italian manufacturers, with the ‘75’ designation marking the anniversary of Ferrari’s first production car. The 125 S was the first car produced back in March 1947. The F1-75 is due to be launched on February 17th, which will be piloted by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
“Formula 1, with its spirit of competition and innovation, has always been a fundamental part of Ferrari, driving the technological development of our road cars. This year, as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of our first production car leaving the factory, we honour that spirit by naming our 2022 F1 challenger the Ferrari F1-75,” said chairman John Elkann. The team began testing last week, trying out the 2018-specification SF71H at Fiorano. The testing included both Ferrari drivers and test driver Robert Shwartzman. The 2021 car was known as the SF21, similar to the SF1000 of 2020, which commemorated the team’s 1,000th Grand Prix. The SF90 of 2019 was the last car to win a race for the Italian giants.
What to expect from Ferrari this season?
Team Principal Mattia Binotto confirmed earlier that the team was working hard towards the 2022 season. Carlos Sainz looked impressive in his debut season, while Charles Leclerc had a disappointing 2021. Both drivers will be looking to use the F1-75 to maximum effect and bring Ferrari closer to the Championship.
With a new era beginning this season, Ferrari will look to go all guns blazing to match up to the might of Red Bull and Mercedes.
