Ferrari have announced their reserve driver for 11 F1 races for 2022
Ferrari F1 team has revealed their reserve drivers for the 2022 season. Mick Schumacher has been revealed as their reserve driver for 11 races for the upcoming season. The 22-year old made his F1 debut this year with Haas. Although he has been brought to Ferrari as their reserve driver, he will still continue with his duties for Haas.
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto said (h/t racefans):
“Mick Schumacher will be a reserve driver for Ferrari, which I think again is a great one because it will be his second season next year, he is a Ferrari driver coming from the driver academy. I’m very happy that he can be part of the team as a reserve driver.”
Schumacher was a part of the Ferrari driver academy as mentioned by Binotto. Being called upon by Ferrari as a reserve driver will present a great opportunity for him to follow in the footsteps of his father.
F1: Who will be the reserve driver for the remaining races?
As mentioned earlier, Schumacher will only be with Ferrari for 11 races. That leaves us with 12 races where Ferrari still needs to have a reserve driver. For the remainder of the races, it was announced that the former Alfa Romeo driver, Antonio Giovinazzi will be taking the role of the reserve driver. Giovinazzi was with Alfa Romeo until the end of the 2021 season. However, he has left F1 and is departing to take his racing career to Formula E.
