Shaila-Ann Rao has left her role as Interim Secretary General for motorsport after a tenure of five months
The FIA has announced the departure of interim secretary general for motor sports, Shaila-Ann Rao, after five months in the job. Rao joined the FIA from Mercedes in June and was at the center of the controversy over Red Bull breaching F1’s budget cap regulations in 2021. In her previous post, Rao was a special adviser to Mercedes F1 team principal Toto Wolff.
Sources have confirmed that Rao’s decision to leave is her own, and she wasn’t forced to resign. Rao was apparently not satisfied with the job role and hence, quit. Rao had joined FIA to assist new president Mohammed Ben Sulayem in his “transition period”.
In its official statement, FIA stated: “Shaila-Ann successfully managed this transition period, providing valuable support and assistance to the FIA President and the organisation during this period which is now ending. Shaila-Ann will now therefore be leaving the FIA following the end of the Formula 1 Season. The FIA thanks Shaila-Ann for her support during this period.”
