Jack Nicholls is a well-known F1 commentator – here’s everything you need to know about his sacking
Jack Nicholls is an accomplished motorsport commentator known for his dynamic and engaging style of broadcasting. His ability to convey the excitement, drama, and intricacies of racing events is unparalleled, making him a beloved figure in the industry.
Whether it’s Formula 1 or Formula E, Jack’s knowledgeable insights, charismatic presence, and smooth delivery have made him a trusted voice in the world of motorsport broadcasting. However, he has recently been sacked from his role as a commentator with BBC Radio 5.
Nicholls has been sacked from his role after three allegations of ‘inappropriate touching’ were made against him last year. Based on the investigation findings, he has lost his job with IMG, which provide radio F1 coverage for BBC Radio 5 Live. Nicholls also presents shows for Netflix’s popular Drive to Survive series and it remains to be seen if he loses his job even there.
Nicholls stated that he is “disappointed” with this decision but respects it. He has been a commentator for BBC Formula 1 for nine years and in 2019 carried out the same role on the Netflix documentary series Drive To Survive. This sacking is certainly horrible news for Nicholls and now his career is at stake.
Jack Nicholls was earlier sacked from his role at Formula E
Nicholls was earlier dismissed by Formula E in May following an investigation into his behaviour was carried out by the championship series. All three victims spoke against Nicholls during the investigation. While one of the complainants is a junior colleague of Nicholls, the other two reports were made by witnesses. As per the investigation findings, the incidents have taken place across the world in cities like Rome and Cape Town.
Formula E revealed in its official statement: “We can confirm that an investigation was carried out in response to complaints of inappropriate behaviour received about Jack Nicholls. Following this investigation, Jack Nicholls’s contract to provide race commentary was terminated.” A thorough inquiry was carried out by the electric racing championship and Nicholls was not allowed to travel to Formula E circuits around the world during this process. Instead, he was made to provide his commentary on races remotely from a base in London.
