French GP 2021 qualifying: Max Verstappen claims job is not done after securing pole position

Max Verstappen beat both the Mercedes cars to secure pole in qualifying for the French GP

Max Verstappen was in fine form during qualifying for the 2021 French GP. The Red Bull star was more or less on top of things during the three sessions and beat the two Mercedes cars to secure his fifth pole of his career.

This was also the second pole of Verstappen’s 2021 season and he will have some support with teammate Sergio Perez coming in fourth.

Mercedes had dominated the Paul Ricard track over the years but Lewis Hamilton came in second on Saturday while Valtteri Bottas came in third.

Verstappen now has a chance to extend his lead in the F1 drivers standings after his mishap at Baku from a couple of weeks back.

The Dutch youngster posted an update on Instagram and Twitter where he lauded his team. However, he was certain that there was some work to be done on Sunday and he was keen on ensuring the team gets the win.

Red Bulls look strong again

Mercedes did have some troubles in the last two races but they were back on form during this weekend.

Sunday, however, can be different especially with rain being forecast. That would put a spanner in the works for all teams but Verstappen is known for his wet driving skills.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out especially as Hamilton and Verstappen failed to score points at Baku.

The 2021 French Grand Prix is going to be another fantastic chapter in this season’s story, and there could be a ton of fireworks from the Red Bulls and Mercedes cars on Sunday.
