A brand new design of the 2023 Dutch GP trophy has been revealed – here’s everything you need to know
Pictures of the trophies to be presented to the top three drivers at the F1 Dutch GP have been revealed by the event organizers. Crafted from ceramic, these trophies pay homage to the 1939 Grand Prix edition. Resembling cups, each trophy showcases distinct colored lions. The victor’s trophy boasts a golden lion, while the second and third place trophies display orange and blue lions respectively.
Studio Piet Boon from the Netherlands is responsible for the trophy’s design, and they highlighted the country’s longstanding pride in motorsport. On their website, they mentioned that the trophy’s design is a nod to the Royal Coat of Arms of the Netherlands, showcasing their connection to the sport. “Over the years, motor racing has carved out a prominent place in Dutch culture, symbolizing national pride. In homage to this, the Royal Coat of Arms of the Netherlands is prominently incorporated into the trophy’s design.”
They also elaborated that the use of ceramic material for the trophy is tied to the country’s century-old tradition of employing delftware. “Adding to its uniqueness, the trophy is crafted from ceramic. In collaboration with Royal Delft, masters of Delft blue since 1653, the trophy has found its ideal artisans.”
The upcoming Dutch GP holds a special significance for Max Verstappen as it’s his home race with Red Bull. Having secured victory in the past two seasons, he is anticipated to maintain his winning streak and clinch his ninth consecutive triumph this season.
Despite the sentimental value embedded in the design of the Dutch GP trophies, fans’ reactions have been less enthusiastic. Many expressed their dissatisfaction. Let us take a look at some of the reactions.
