Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas failed at the first hurdle in the qualifying session of Belgian GP 2022
Valtteri Bottas failed to make it to Q2 at the Belgian GP for the first time since the Monaco GP in 2015. The ones to fall at the first hurdle were Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), Nicholas Latifi (Williams), Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri), and Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo). However, due to the grid penalties of drivers ahead, this quintet all moves up the grid to fill the spots from 10th on back.
Carlos Sainz took pole position for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, the 14th round of the 2022 F1 World Championship, despite Red Bull鈥檚 Max Verstappen setting the fastest time in qualifying. Because of grid penalties for power unit changes, the qualifying order doesn鈥檛 truly reflect the starting grid as Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon, Zhou Guanyu and Mick Schumacher will all start at the back.
Fans react to Bottas failing to qualify to Q2 at Belgian GP
There were mixed reactions from fans over Bottas’ failure to make it to Q2 at Spa. Let us take a look at some of the reactions.
“He will start from the back in front of those changing engines regardless, so it literally doesn’t matter where he finishes (he has a +15 grid penalty for changing engine components)”, explained a fan.
“Bottas is elite, I want him in a good car (miss him at Mercedes despite all that happened)”, wrote another fan.
“he was giving a tow to Zhou, cause he would start P14 despite his qualifying position. It’s about being a team player”, tweeted another fan.
“Crazy stat tho. Shame it wasn’t 150”, read another tweet.
“The Q2-appearance-streak! Awesome job, Valtteri! Let鈥檚 turn a strong race to your birthday present”, wrote another fan.
