Mercedes driver George Russell registered his maiden F1 victory at the Brazilian GP last weekend
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has revealed that F1 icon Niki Lauda always rated George Russell very highly. Lauda passed away in 2019 and unfortunately, couldn’t witness Russell’s landmark win last week but Lauda regarded Russell as a child prodigy. Three-time F1 World Champion Lauda is one of the most respected F1 drivers of all time.
Toto Wolff said that years back when Russell used to drive in GP3, Niki Lauda told him that the Brit has a dazzling future ahead of him. “I remember George’s first win in GP3, Niki said to me: he’s going to become a good one”, said Wolff. Russell secured his and Mercedes’ maiden win this season, last weekend at the Interlagos Circuit.
