The Azerbaijan GP is scheduled to take place from April 28 to April 30 at the Baku City Circuit – how many DRS zones are there?
F1 has made a number of modifications to various circuits on the Formula One Calendar ahead of 2023. As per official sources, changes in DRS zones were already implemented in Bahrain, Jeddah and Melbourne while Baku and Miami are set to be next.
The Azerbaijan GP at the Baku City Circuit has historically had two DRS zones but there could be an increase during this weekend’s race – the number hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
The two traditional DRS zones at the Baku City Circuit are likely to be retained this year as well. The first zone is located at the straight of the finish line while the second zone is positioned on the straight parallel to that of the pits after Corner 2. It remains to be seen where the new additional DRS zones are positioned this weekend.
It is important to note that Baku is the third longest track on the F1 calendar and there is enough room for more DRS activation zones. The circuit is an FIA Grade 1 licensed circuit and spans over a total length of 6 km including 20 turns and has a capacity of 18,500.
How is the weather expected to be for this weekend’s Azerbaijan GP?
The forecast for the weekend in Baku looks bright with hardly any chances of rainfall. The temperature will be ideal for racing, hovering around 22-23 degrees Celsius throughout the weekend, so that’s not much of a worry. However, cloudy conditions are expected on both the Sprint Race Day (April 29) and the main Race (April 30).
Friday is expected to be sunny, warm and bright and we should be having a smooth practice session. The Sprint qualifying session and the Sprint race on Saturday will take place under cloudy conditions but chances of rainfall are less.
The main race on Sunday will experience partly cloudy conditions but the temperature is expected to be ideal for racing. Although the rain is not much of a threat on race day, conditions might change quickly – fans and teams will have their fingers crossed that rain doesn’t play spoilsport.
