DRS Zones Canadian GP
The Canadian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from June 16 to June 18 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal
F1 has made several modifications to various circuits on the Formula One Calendar before the start of the 2023 season. Changes in DRS zones were implemented in Bahrain, Jeddah, Baku and Miami but there are no such plans for the circuit in Montreal, which is scheduled to host the Canadian GP.
The track at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will continue to have THREE DRS zones like previous editions and no changes in the track layout have been made either ahead of this weekend’s race.
The detection point of the first DRS Zone lies 15 metres after Turn 5 while the activation zone is located 90 metres after Turn 7. The detection points of the second and third DRS Zones lie 110m before Turn 9. The second zone’s activation point is located 155m before Turn 12 and the third zone’s activation point lies 70m after Turn 14.
The zones are strategically placed at enough distance from each other and the layout provides ample opportunities for the drivers to overtake. The well-designed circuit paves the way for thrilling races and that is one of the primary reasons why the Canadian GP is one of the most anticipated races in the F1 calendar.
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is located in the city of Montreal which is a part of Quebec. Quebec is the Canadian province which has been severely impacted by the wildfires but thankfully the circuit is quite far away from the specific areas which have been affected by the wildfires. The circuit is located in Notre Dame Island in Montreal and has been the home of the Canadian Grand Prix in the modern era.
Canada and the nearby regions in North America have been severely impacted by wildfires in Quebec. A major portion of the population in America and Canada are under air quality warnings and local residents have been asked to remain indoors as much as possible. The current conditions have already led to the cancellation of three big New York theater productions and two Major League Baseball games. However, F1 has issued an official statement confirming that the risk of cancellation is ‘low’ at the moment.
Two races have already been cancelled so far in this F1 season and fans will be relieved to know that the Grand Prix has been given a green light at the moment.
