FIA’s new rule states that “body piercing or metal neck chains” would not be allowed during on-track sessions
Lewis Hamilton has no plans of removing jewelry and body piercings despite FIA’s new rule. The 7-time world champion clarified that the jewelry is a part of his body and only he has the right to decide if wants to keep them or remove them. “I don’t have any plans on removing them. They are personal things. You should be able to be who you are. There is stuff that I cannot remove. I literally cannot even take these out. These ones on my right ear are welded in so I would have to get it chopped off. They will be staying“, said Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton had a good laugh with fellow drivers Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas while speaking on the issue. The Brit joked, “Well, I’ve got certain piercings that I just can’t take out, that not many people know of! It’s been the rule forever, since I’ve been here it’s been the rule, so nothing new. I’m just going to come with more jewelry next week.”
In reply, Hamilton’s former Mercedes teammate Bottas quipped, “stewards can take it off.” On being asked if he puts on jewelry, Verstappen said, “I would be too heavy if I wore jewelry, so it’s not possible.”
Lewis Hamilton is not satisfied with fourth place finish in Melbourne
Lewis Hamilton had a horrible start to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah. He was knocked out in the very first round of qualifying – the first time since 2017. Hamilton started the race in his P15 grid slot but could only manage a 10th placed finish earning one point. This was not the start that the 7-time world champion was expected ahead of the 2022 F1 season.
However, Hamilton has come back stronger in Melbourne and secured a P4 finish at the Australian GP. But the British driver is not quite satisfied with the result and feels he could have had a better finish if things went in his favor. Hamilton faced heating problems with his car midway through the race which affected his pace.
“I couldn’t race for the position because the car was overheating, so I had to back off”, said Hamilton
