Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button have previously driven together for McLaren F1 team
Fernando Alonso believes that Jenson Button still has what it takes to drive in Formula one. Former F1 world champion Button retired five years ago in 2017. The button now 42, is enjoying his post-retirement life while his friend and former colleague Alonso (41) are still going strong in Formula 1. Both Alonso and Button dominated F1 during their prime, Alonso being a two-time World Champion (2005 and 2006) while Button won the title in 2009.
Jenson Button put a sarcastic reply on Twitter to F1’s tweet which mentioned that Alonso clocked the best start reaction time in last weekend’s Mexican GP. “But he’s sooo old”, Button wrote sarcastically, taking a dig at critics who stated that 41-year-old Alonso should retire from F1. To Button’s comment, Alonso tweeted a picture of him and the British driver together, with the caption: “I think it’s time for you to come back.”
Fernando Alonso has joined Aston Martin and will continue in Formula 1
Fernando Alonso has no plans of retiring from F1 yet. The 41-year-old still has what it takes to be in the top flight of motorsport, once again proving that ‘age is just a number’. He has joined Aston Martin on a multi-year Formula 1 deal from 2023. The two-time F1 world champion will leave Alpine at the end of the season to join Aston Martin.
The Spaniard will take over the seat that is being left vacant by Sebastian Vettel, after he announced his F1 retirement earlier this year.
“This Aston Martin team is clearly applying the energy and commitment to win, and it is therefore one of the most exciting teams in Formula 1 today.I have known Lawrence and Lance for many years and it is very obvious that they have the ambition and passion to succeed in Formula 1”, said Alonso after signing a new deal with Aston Martin.Alonso will partner Lance Stroll at the Silverstone-based team.
