The statement made by Yuki Tsunoda comes ahead of the Canadian GP, which is scheduled to take place from 17-19 June at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal
Yuki Tsunoda has got fans on social media laughing hard after a funny reference in a recent interview. Asked about his plans for this weekend’s Canadian GP, the Alpha Tauri driver said that he is confident of doing well in Montreal because of prior experience driving on it in an F1 video game. “It’s a circuit I have used a lot when playing the Formula 1 game“, Tsunoda said – he believes that gives him a good idea of what to expect from the track.
F1 action is back in Canada this weekend, for the first time since 2019. The 2020 and 2021 editions of the Canadian GP were canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Canadian GP has been a part of the Formula One World Championship since 1967. Its home in the modern era is Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Notre Dame Island in Montreal. It is an FIA Grade 1 licensed circuit.
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is 4.361 km long comprising a total of 14 turns. The circuit has a total crowd capacity of 1,00,000 making it a spectacle on the F1 calendar.
Yuki Tsunoda has been critical of the FIA and says he has no trust in them due to inconsistent decisions. F1’s governing body has come under huge scrutiny this season over inconsistent penalties and rule changes.
In the Monaco Grand Prix a fortnight ago, Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez both escaped punishment for crossing the pit-lane entry. However, at last year’s Austrian GP, Tsunoda received two penalties for crossing the pit entry line and he now says the rules are ‘super inconsistent’.
‘I’m not trusting the FIA. Every time it’s super inconsistent. I have already got four reprimands, and the last time in Monaco, I still don’t know why,’ the Japanese driver said.
Tsunoda is confident of doing well in Montreal, in spite of all the odds. “I’ll just stick to what the regulation says and try not get in any trouble”, said Tsunoda.
