Williams F1 team are currently using the modified FW45 car for the 2023 Formula One World Championship – here is a comparison between the FW25 and FW42
Formula One has come a long way ahead from the last decade in terms of technology, development and safety of drivers. The modifications are pretty evident in the size, shape and designs of the F1 cars that were used in the early 2000s opposed to what is being in the last few years. The difference between the Williams FW25 and FW42 gives us a clear picture about how much the Formula One fraternity has advanced over the past few years.
Williams F1 team used the FW25 during the 2003 F1 World Championship while the FW42 was used more recently during the 2019 F1 World Championship. The FW25 is historically one of Williams‘ most successful cars and till date is the only Williams car to score a 1-2 finish. Meanwhile, the FW42 looks much better to the naked eye but wasn’t able to deliver to desired results during the 2019 season.
Williams are currently using the newly developed FW45 car for the 2023 Formula One World Championship. The chassis of the car is made of Carbon-fibre monocoque, laminated from carbon epoxy and honeycomb. The front and rear suspension comprise double wishbone, push-rod activated springs and anti-roll bar. The FW45 uses a Mercedes M-14 E Performance V6 turbocharged engine limited to 15,000 RPM in a mid-mounted, rear-wheel drive layout.
The FW45 has not made the best start to the 2023 Formula One season though. In three races so far, there have been two instances of a Williams driver registering a DNF due to retiring mid-way through the race as a result of technical issues – both times it was Alexander Albon in Jeddah and Melbourne. The team has only been able to collect one point so far, thanks to a 10th place finish for Albon in the opening race of the season in Bahrain.
