Charles Leclerc’s luxury watch was stolen in 2022 ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy
The Italian Police have tracked down four thieves and arrested them in following an investigation regarding the theft of Charles Leclerc‘s stolen watch last year. The houses of the four suspects were searched by the authorities and the Police found two valuable luxurious watches and cash totaling to an amount of €23,000. However, it has not yet been revealed if Leclerc’s customised Richard Mille RM67 watch was found among the recovered items.
The Italian Carabinieri in Viareggio released an official statement revealing that three men and one woman were arrested after a thorough investigation – reviewing numerous video surveillance pictures and the questioning of various witnesses.
The press release also states that two of the arrested suspects were allegedly involved in another incident two years back. In 2021, the alleged criminals threatened a French tourist with a pistol and robbed him of his €80,000 watch. The suspects are allegedly repeat offenders and have been involved in various other robbery attempts.
How did Charles Leclerc get robbed of his watch?
Charles Leclerc’s watch was stolen in April 2022, when he was in Italy for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver was asked by a group of people to pose for a photograph with them on a street and Leclerc duly obliged.
However, when strangers left the spot, Leclerc found that his timepiece had been removed from his wrist and he naturally reported it to the police. In the days afterwards, Leclerc revealed early progress had been slow in efforts to apprehend the thieves and recover the watch.
Charles Leclerc was pretty sad after the incident occurred as the watch was a very dear possession. In a press conference before the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Leclerc publicly expressed his disappointment: “It hasn’t been a great experience but I cannot say much more than that. Everything is going on with the police and they are trying to find them. It hasn’t been as smooth as what I’ve read. But overall, I am fine and fully focused on the weekend. It won’t hurt me for this weekend.” Now that the thieves have finally been caught, Leclerc must be a relieved man.
