Las Vegas will be the third American City in 2023 to host an F1 race after Miami and Austin
Las Vegas has been officially announced as an F1 host city from 2023. The announcement was made at a glittering event in Vegas on Wednesday evening with Liberty Media President and CEO Greg Maffei and F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali in attendance. The Las Vegas Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday next November and will be a night event. Las Vegas has hosted races previously in 1981 and 1982 but this is the first time that F1 cars will race on the iconic Las Vegas strip, with the circuit sweeping past famous hotels and casinos.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is elated to welcome Las Vegas to the F1 calendar. He said, “This is an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the US. Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for its excitement, hospitality, thrills and of course, the famous Strip.” Domenicali further added, “There is no better place for Formula 1 to race than in the global entertainment capital of the world and we cannot wait to be here next year. I want to thank everyone who helped deliver this event especially Governor Sisolak, the Clark County Commission, Steve Hill at the LVCVA and our local partners.”
Formula 1 fans were undoubtedly super excited to welcome a new venue to the F1 calendar. The back drop of the neon lights of Vegas as F1 cars speed through the strip definitely adds to the thrill and adventure.
Sports star Shane Anderson is evidently excited at the prospect of watching an F1 race in Vegas. “This should be one of the great sporting and begging experiences”, he tweeted.
“This will be Insane. And Super Bowl in the following feb. Vegas keeps on kicking goals”, tweeted a user, certainly excited at Vegas’ upcoming sporting calendar.
While some fans are really excited, other users are worried about the movement of traffic as the race is scheduled to take place on streets strip. “They are going to disrupt traffic on the strip on a Saturday? I can’t believe all the businesses would be happy about that”, tweeted a user.
“This is even better than what I thought. I’m definitely going”, wrote another fan who is totally looking forward to attending the race in person next year.
