Lewis Hamilton may be punished for ditching the FIA award ceremony on Thursday

Mercedes AMG F1 driver Lewis Hamilton has had a tough past week and it seems like it might just get worse. After a rather sour ending to the Formula One world championship this past Sunday, Hamilton chose to not attend the FIA awards ceremony on Thursday.

This move was not appreciated by the new FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem and the new president might decide to punish Hamilton for the same. Sulayem was asked about forgiving the Brit racer for ditching the awards ceremony to which he said (h/t BBC):

“Forgiveness is always there. But rules are rules. I know Lewis is really sad about what happened. I would say he is broken. But we have to look into if there is any breach. A few hours now as president, I cannot give answers without going back to the facts.”

The FIA president has refused to rule out the possibility of punishing Hamilton for his actions. It is yet to be seen what happens next in this situation.
