Lando Norris saw his best lap time get deleted in the final qualifying session at the 2021 Imola GP
From ecstasy to heartbreak in a matter of seconds. That was what the McLaren team and Lando Norris went through in the third qualifying session at the 2021 Imola GP.
Norris was the surprise package throughout the three sessions as he was always close to the top three. McLaren have new Mercedes engines this season but not many would have expected the Papaya team to be competing against the Red Bulls and Mercedes cars.
Norris even topped the timing sheets a couple of times and he seemed set for his best qualifying position in the final session.
The British star was second after his last lap but that got deleted due to him exceeding track limits. This pushed him down to seventh and Norris was dejected after this as he shared his thoughts on social media:
“Me right now. I misjudged it and the time was deleted. Sorry to everyone at @McLarenF1, I effed up, you deserved better today.”
Lewis Hamilton provides some advice for Lando Norris
Norris is just 21 and still has a ton of years left in him. However, he seems to have an experienced head on his shoulders and well, there was some great advice from rival Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton knows what it means to start an F1 career early and there are a ton of ups and downs. The Mercedes driver, who is a seven-time F1 champion, had some great words for Norris and shared them on social media.
The current champion added that the lap from Norris was great and told him to get ready for the race.
Norris starts seventh but he could have been third after all the lap times had come in. The British star has been incredible this season and it will be interesting to see how his race goes.
