Lewis Hamilton finished 5th in the Turkey GP was ideal as per Mika Hakkinen
Former Formula One champion Mika Hakkinen has recently claimed that Lewis Hamilton’s result at the Turkey GP was indeed a good one. Well, Hamilton will not agree to the statement as the Brit was left frustrated after pitting which eventually led him to lose the podium positions.
Hakkinen looked back at the Turkish GP this past weekend and commented on Hamilton’s performance. He said (h/t UNIBET):
“In my opinion finishing 5th, on a day when Valtteri won and Max had to settle for 2nd, was a good result for Lewis. He could also have suffered a tyre failure, and failing to finish is really not something that he can risk in his battle with Max for the World Championship.”
The Formula One legend certainly feels like it was the right decision to pit but the timing could’ve been better. However, Hakkinen still feels like a fifth position finish was a good result for Hamilton and that he could certainly take some positives out of the race.
How does the Formula One driver’s standing shape up at the moment?
The F1 driver’s championship top spot has been captured by Max Verstappen yet again. The Dutch driver finished 2nd behind Valtteri Bottas but managed to reclaim the top spot in the standings. After a fifth position finish in the Turkish GP Hamilton currently sits at the second position, six points behind Verstappen.
Hamilton’s new engine can give him a little edge over Verstappen heading into the final few races of the season. The 2021 season is seeing the closest title race for years between Verstappen and the seven times world champion Hamilton.
